Utica Geography and Pests

Utica Welcome SignUtica is located in Macomb County, Michigan. The city is 1.71 square miles in area. The city was first settled in 1829 by Joseph Stead. Like other locales in the area, it was named after a town in New York, from where some of the first settlers came.

Utica boasts some notable athletes among its past residents, including Don and Mike Stone, who played hockey at the University of Michigan, and Major League Baseball pitcher Duke Maas.

Residents of Utica enjoy many outdoor activities, but sometimes mosquitos can get in the way. They breed in any kind of water, even birdbaths or just puddles on the ground. Many people consider them simply a nuisance, but they can carry highly dangerous diseases such as West Nile virus. As a Utica pest control company, we can help you get rid of mosquitos so you can enjoy your yard again without worrying.

As the weather begins to turn cooler, homeowners may notice that mice have squeezed into their home through a tiny opening. They reproduce very rapidly, and once they’re in your home they certainly don’t like to leave. Professional help is often needed to get mice out and keep them from coming back for good.

Utica History and Pests

Utica was first settled in 1829 by Joseph Stead, who called it Harlow. The name was later changed to Utica by settlers who came from the town in New York by the same name. It was incorporated as a village in the late 1830s and re-incorporated in 1877 with smaller village limits. This allowed the owners of some farms in the area to pay lower township taxes.

There is a small historic district in town, but most of the older buildings were destroyed by fire in 1905 and 1906.

Many Utica homeowners have seen carpenter ants, which like to chew on old, damp wood. They are often found on wooden decks and patios, and indoors in kitchens and bathrooms. As a local Utica pest control company, we can rid your home of these and other pests.

Another pest common to the area is the boxelder bug. These bugs can swarm your home in large numbers, then disappear as quickly as they came, only to reappear. They are very strong and can force their way into your home through window seals. You can recognize them by their distinctive red and yellow markings, and the red stain they leave behind when they are crushed.

We are a local Utica exterminator with extensive experience in getting rid of mosquitos, mice, carpenter ants, boxelder bugs and other pests that plague area homeowners. We can dispatch an expert technician to your home or place of business within one business day.
